When shopping for places to stay on Airbnb and HomeAway, always ask for a discount. Someone asked me the other day if they should ask for a discount when one is already listed. My response was, “Heck Yeah!”. Always ask for a discount. Since I started asking, I have only been turned down once.

Here’s a tip. Kill them with kindness. There is no reason to be brash. Below is an example of how I ask for a discount.

It works like magic. I always end with, “I completely understand if you do not.” This is how I see it.  Owners would rather have some money than no money. Seems logical, right?

It is usually easier to secure a discount on last minute bookings or on long term reservations. That doesn’t mean you have to wait until the last minute to book. I have secured discounts months in advance. Good luck and happy discount hunting.

I have literally NEVER thought to do this… and I book most of my holidays on airbnb! Thanks for the tip!

  3. Great post! Thank you 🙂

  4. Great idea! Seems obvious now thinking about it haha but it works. Just curious how many times have you used this successfully? I should have used this on a recent trip I booked where I had an AmEx Offer deal that I combined otherwise I think it would have been way overpriced.

So when they offer you the discount do they adjust the price for your booking through the website or do they offer you a cash rebate in person when you book it? After I had already booked the trip we decided it was just easier to do a cash refund in person for a portion of the BnB service that was not able to be provided.

    1. Hey Hanna, I have received a discount about 5 or 6 times now. Sometimes a very heavy discount. It helps that I have a great guest rating. They adjust the price online. Everything has to be done through the Airbnb website. Be cautious about doing anything outside of the website.
