Stop Texting And Driving Idiots
Leave it up to a super bad car accident to literally change your whole life mission. The girls and I were supposed to head out on a cross-country trip from Texas to Canada. That’s not happening!
Two days before we were set to leave a woman ran a red light and plowed right into us. She didn’t even attempt to break. I am assuming she was on her freaking phone
I can still hear my oldest daughter’s screams.
In the moment before the car hit us, I saw it coming and knew there was nothing I could do to stop it. At that moment, I was sure I was going to lose my girls.
The Visceral Details That Last Forever
I will never forget the sounds and the smells of the impact. All the side airbags deployed and when I looked back at my daughters, my oldest looked like she was covered in blood.
Luckily, by some freaking miracle, we were all okay. It wasn’t blood. It was dag on hot Cheetos. I somehow managed to get our van over to the side of the road as quickly as possible. I kept thinking we were going to get hit again by another vehicle that wouldn’t be able to stop in time.
Baby On Board
A man ran over to my window. I shouted to him to call 911 because at the time I didn’t know how my 1-year-old was doing. I tried to open my door but it wouldn’t budge. I was asking my big girls how the baby was and they were trying to reassure me that she was okay while I was trying to reassure them that they were going to be okay.
A fire truck, an ambulance, and a police car showed up pretty quickly. My two oldest girls were hugging each other. I was trying to keep everyone calm while I checked them over. We had been following my mom so she soon drove up to the scene. I put my two oldest girls in the car with her so she could get them home, and told them again they would be okay and I loved them. I had to stay behind with the baby to talk to the police.
One of the witnesses told me he had dash cam footage of the whole thing. Hallelujah! Another witness decided to pray for us right then and there. I kept saying over and over again thank God I had a van. It still amazes me just how much adrenaline can take over in situations like that. This accident shook me to my core. That was all last week and with our van totaled, all that is left are the memories of the accident and some slight bruising.
Update: We did get to go on that cross-country road trip a month later and it was absolutely amazing! You can read about it here.
