4 Reasons Why You Should Never Visit Mexico

Time and time again Mexico shows up in the headlines for cartel murders, border fights, and tainted alcohol. All over social media people swear they will never step foot in Mexico. The US Department of State has travel warnings saying not to go to certain cities in Mexico. After spending the last few months in two different cities in Mexico, I am here to tell you 4 reasons why you should NEVER visit Mexico.

The Dreaded Weight Gain

Mexico is a culinary orgasm. The food here is simply divine and there is no way you will be able to resist. Please stay away because you will become so addicted that no food outside of Mexico will ever taste the same therefore ruining food for you. You will dream of it in your sleep and your days will pass with thoughts of tacos, chilaquiles, tostadas, and ice cream galore.

Dangerous Locals

You truly don’t want to come to Mexico because you will be forced to interact with the dangerous locals and that is NOT something you want to do. You see. The danger with these people is that they are so unbelievably nice that you will feel welcomed and loved even though they are complete strangers. It is such an odd feeling to be welcomed and loved by strangers when you are so used to people back home not interacting with you. That changes in Mexico where neighbors are like family and everyone keeps an eye out for each other. Stay away!

The Damn Music

Trust me. You are not ready for all the great music on every corner. You’re just not. They play everything out here with the most popular being Mariachi. You will try and sit still and enjoy your dinner but your hips will begin to move uncontrollably and you will be up out of your seat in no time. Upon returning back to your homeland, the music will follow you deep into your soul and take you away to magical places in your dreams. Don’t come to Mexico.

It’s Old

Seriously, the place is too damn old. Who in their right mind wants to visit a place with so much history and culture? Not when we have places like Vegas, right? Mexico is rich with history from the hills in Guanajuato City, Mexico to the Mayan Ruins in the Yucatan Peninsula. Careful, you might come here and learn some historical shit. Don’t take the risk!

Actually I too spend a couple months in PV yearly for many years. It has always been my favorite place in the world. However, this past season I witnessed a very disturbing problem. The large mall in front of here we stayed had people shooting for over five minutes that poured out into the street, and ended in a police chase. I was not able to find out any information on what the shooting was all about. I got several different accounts. It was very disturbing, and even though I love PV I can’t say I will ever feel as save as I had . Another sad fact the entire bay was spotted with red algae throughout the winter season. Red algae is dangerous if eaten. I suggest if anyone is concerned or would like to find out facts in regard to red algae do a bit of scientific research. One thing has become very clear to me, what happens in PV stays in PV. Will I continue to spend winters in PV? Most likely I will, but I do believe one should be aware that all is not perfect in PV. It’s most likely as safe as many other travel destinations around the world, but it is being badly polluted. And this is a result of tourism. The people are wonderful, and work hard to provide tourist good vacation experiences.

    1. There are definitely dangers in Mexico. That shouldn’t be ignored but the reality is that there is danger everywhere.

Just like in the US … except it’s grade schools, middle schools, high schools, churches, concert venues, work places, night clubs and of course shopping malls.

I’ve lived in PV for over 20 years now – I don’t know of a large mall except right in front of the marina where the cruise ships come in, and there is really no place there to stay. Where were you? As to the red algae, it can come here as with any ocean area, but it is only here for a week or so during the winter – I live on the water and am very attuned to what happens there, as we watch it every day and snorkel and swim there. We have always felt very safe here in PV – much safer than any other place I know in the world.

  2. We love visiting historical sites with our kiddo but, Mexico is not the place to go. My mom took me there a few years ago and I had someone watch my daughter while my mom and I did a day trip.

This is amazing! People say such terrible things about wonderful places and I love how your post turns that back around on them!

    1. Thanks, Debbie. Yes, people are always negative about Mexico. I actually wrote this after seeing another article talking about the dangers of Mexico.

I clicked because I was so confused by your title! Glad I did because Mexico is beautiful!

    1. It is an amazing country! I am glad you clicked!

Your right, it can be dangerous especially if your an American. However, I been there many times and have never encountered any problems. Just make sure you are familiar with Mexican law. Especially traffic laws. Stay out of bars and night clubs. Unless you are with someone that knows his way around. If you look for trouble, of course you will find it! Its true about the cuisine. Man you gotta love it! But there are places you can get good healthy food. Research before you go. You can enjoy yourself if you know how.

    1. Yes, Raul. Research is key for any place you are visiting but Mexico is an amazing country.

Your title got me. I was about to get all defensive about it, because I love Mexico and my husband is from there, but now that I read it, I have calmed down lol. All of your points are very true, especially the food!! I lived in Mexico for almost 3 years and fell in love with the food. Even though I am now in California and there is a lot of Hispanic food around, nothing will ever compare. Thanks so much for sharing your post, I am happy to read other’s experiences in Mexico that are not negative.

    1. I am glad you calmed down. Lol. I love it too! It is such amazing country! You are so right about the food. I just can’t get enough of it.
