I couldn’t help it. I just couldn’t stay in one place any longer. For a few weeks the girls and I had been enjoying our tiny RV rental at Community First Village in Austin, TX. We spent the time catching up with friends and family. It didn’t take long though for the travel bug to bite again and in the middle of the night the idea of going to New Orleans popped in my mind. Heck yeah! I had only been once before and I remember just how much I loved it. Telling the girls was easy. Trying to figure out how I was going to budget it in for this month was a whole other story. It didn’t matter. Once I get an idea, I go for it. I jumped on Airbnb and started doing my typical bargaining. Luckily, I landed us a sweet deal on a house close enough to all the action.
It doesn’t really matter what the nightly rate is listed on Airbnb. Always ask for a discount. It can’t hurt, and if it is last minute like my bookings typically are, you get an even better chance of lowering the price. Owners appreciate some money over no money.
We were happy to bring along my co-parent and bonus daughter for this adventure. I didn’t even have to drive, my co-parent did it all.
Let me just say that it is a whole lot easier to get through a 10 hour drive with a 1-year-old when you have your own personal driver. Hallelujah!
The drive went better than expected and no one managed to vomit which is always a plus. The history of the city greets you immediately when you get to New Orleans. There are wall murals everywhere and they are absolutely stunning.
Last time, I was in New Orleans without kids. This time, I got to see a different side of the city. It was much more enjoyable seeing it through kids’ eyes. We enjoyed going to:
The Children’s Museum
Cafe du Monde
Walking Ghost Tour
And a Trolley Ride
Needless to say, we had so much fun that we ended up getting a hotel and staying an extra two nights.
Until we meet again New Orleans…
