The Best Places For Single Moms To Live In The World

trippinmomma

It is no secret that Mexico is one of the best places for single moms to live in the world. American single moms can live a wonderful life on very little money all across beautiful Mexico.

I was traveling in Mexico when I stumbled upon a couple paradises for single moms. Okay. Okay.

Truthfully, I only spent significant time in three cities in Mexico so this is a matter of opinion.

After spending 5 weeks in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, I am here to tell you why Playa Del Carmen, Mexico is one of the best cities in Mexico for single moms.

Homeschooling/ Unschooling Community

There is a huge homeschooling/ unschooling community. This is so unbelievably important for us single mommas who crave a sense of community. The homeschooling and unschooling community here is so helpful.

I reached out to the community on Facebook prior to coming to Playa Del Carmen. They welcomed me with open arms. Even if your kids are too young for thoughts of schooling, this is still a great resource.

You can join the Facebook group here. We meet weekly at Parque La Ceiba where kids can take various classes outdoors and play to their heart’s content.

We did a YouTube video on this beautiful eco-friendly park. You can check it out by clicking here. At Parque La Ceiba, mommas can sit around and chat while drinking a delicious Cafe D’ Olla. Here, you can also meet other single mommas in the community.

Activities

There are so many family activities in Playa Del Carmen and the surrounding areas. They just opened a new trampoline park, there are two movie theatres with English movies, and there are two malls, various playgrounds, the beach, water parks, pools.

Seriously, you will have so much to do with your kiddos it is unbelievable. I am leaving next week so I will have to make another future trip to Playa Del Carmen because I only did a fraction of things on my list.

Cost Of Living

Although Playa Del Carmen is one of the more expensive cities in Mexico, it is still Mexico which means it is still more affordable than a majority of US Cities. Yep! I said it.

Let’s face it. Being a single momma can be tough. Financially, it can be really tough. I know it. I understand it and that is why I am all for single mommas moving to Mexico. If you can make moving abroad a possibility, I highly suggest Mexico.

Location

Playa Del Carmen is a kick-ass location for travel and who in the heck doesn’t love to travel? Cancun with its major airport is only 50 minutes away from Playa Del Carmen. As a major hub, you can fly pretty cheaply to the US, other parts of Mexico, and Central and South America. Did you hear that? You can fly for cheap from Cancun. Yay!

Plus, there are tons of places within driving distance from Playa Del Carmen. There is the beautiful Tulum, Akumal, Puerto Morelos and many other places that should be on your list.

Did you know that one of the new 7 wonders of the world, Chichen Itza, is only about two hours away? You can also take a quick ferry ride from Playa Del Carmen to Cozumel. It is super easy. We did it and had an absolute blast.

From Cancun, you can take a quick ferry ride to Isla Mujeres which is home to Playa Norte and rated one of the most beautiful beaches in the world!

Paradise For Single Moms #2

I’ve told you all about Playa Del Carmen but there is a city in Mexico that is even better! I mean it is so wonderful that I have chosen to make it my home base.

I took a 10 day trip to Merida, Mexico and absolutely fell in love! I didn’t expect to like it to be honest but I could not get enough of it.

Actually, we almost did not get on our return flight home to Guanajuato City, Mexico because we did not want to leave.

And even upon returning back to Guanajuato City, we made the decision to move to Merida a few days later.

Here is why I rank Merida as the number 1 city in Mexico for single moms!

Single Mom Community

One of the best things about Merida is its amazing single mom community. I was welcomed with open arms by a dynamic group of empowering single moms.

I’ve been searching for a strong single mom community for years and I found that in Merida.

They were there for me every step of the way and I couldn’t have felt more connected with them.

When it comes to finding the best places for single moms to live in the world, a single mom community should definitely be part of the qualifications.

Only other single moms can relate to the unique struggles of single mom life.

Add in the stressors of living in a different country than your own, and those struggles become even more unique.

One of the moms, Barby White, does transition services to help you get settled in Merida. Check out her business page by clicking here and let her know I sent you.

Cost Of Living

I expected Merida to be expensive like Playa Del Carmen is but it wasn’t. A single mom could live a fabulous life in Merida on very little.

Nannies are cheap, daycare is cheap, food is cheap, housing is cheap, and there are tons of free family activities.

We went to this super awesome music museum whole there that was kid friendly, air conditioned, and completely free!

Things To Do

There are endless things to do in and around Merida. I mean endless! In our 10 days there we didn’t even cover a fraction of the things to do.

You can spend your time visiting one of the hundreds of cenotes.

You can hang out at one of the many malls that each offer different activities like trampoline parks, ice skating rinks, bowling alleys, movie theaters, go karts, museums, an English library, Mayan ruins, endless indoor and outdoor playgrounds, water parks, swimming pools, a beach 30 minutes away, and so much more!

Can you tell how excited I am? Lol

On Call Doctors

One of my daughters got sick while we were in Merida. It can be super stressful trying to get a sick kid to the doctor.

Luckily, in Merida, the doctor can come to you.

A friend of ours called up the doctor and he came right to our hotel to diagnose my daughter for about 500 pesos which comes out to $25. Can you believe that?

I was so relieved. This also helps if us single moms get sick because the doctor can come to us instead of us trying to get all the kids out of the house while sick to try and get to the hospital.

I have shown you two of the best places for single moms to live in the world.
