You always hear about these crazy folks who quit their jobs, sold all their stuff and then set out to travel the world. What you don’t hear about is how travel seriously messes you up for life. Rest assured. That is what I am here for. Here are 5 ways travel messes you up!
No Place Like Home, right?
You’ll set out on this grand wanderlust adventure of seeing the world and then you will inevitably return back home for various reasons. However, home will not feel the same. Don’t get me wrong. Everyone you left behind and everything will pretty much be the same. Frozen in time so-to-speak. There might be a few new buildings in your old town. Maybe someone you know will have had a baby but nothing will feel the same to you.
Travel opens your eyes and mind in ways nothing else can. I can’t explain it. You won’t be able to explain it but that doesn’t make it any less true. Home will forever be ruined for you. You will no longer belong, so you will do everything possible to get out on another adventure as soon as possible.

Addiction Is Real, Y’all
There are certain things in life that are addicting. Actually, pretty much anything can be addicting. Just read my last post about the 5 dangers of Mexico you didn’t know to find out about addiction in Mexico. It is crazy. That is not the addiction I am talking about here so strap in and get ready. You will forever be looking for the next deal, next adventure, and next badass Airbnb. It is unavoidable once you start traveling and absolutely addicting. You’ll find yourself waking up in the middle of the night to jump on Skyscanner or Booking.com to see where your next trip will be. Heck! You’ll even set up a payment plan for your next flight by using Airfordable and get $25 off by using my code. You’ll find yourself joining every travel group on Facebook including my Single Mom Evolution group so you can live vicariously through other’s travel. Gone are the days of peaceful sleep not dreaming about your next adventure.
The Great Awakening
Travel messes you up in so many ways. Within a week of setting out on your adventure, you’ll realize that you’ve been lied to your entire life. Actually, I remember my first day in Mexico a year ago, and how I immediately felt lied to. My whole life I was taught that the United States was the greatest country in the world. I was also taught my whole life that if I went to Mexico, I would surely die, my kids would be kidnapped, and we would make the headlines on the news back home. Don’t get me wrong. There are definitely dangers in Mexico you need to know about it. That is why I wrote 5 Dangers Of Mexico You Didn’t Know. Read it by clicking here so you are very aware of all the scary dangers in Mexico. I’ve lived and traveled in Mexico twice so far and lived and traveled through several other countries in the last two years as a single mom of 3. Not only am I still alive but I’ve met some of the kindest and most amazing people of my life. I’ve seen all the wonderful things other countries have to offer. Of course, every country has their issues but I also no longer believe that the United States is the greatest country in the world nor has it ever been despite claims to make America great again. I digress.
Unfortunately, to travel you either need a butt load of money saved up, a rich daddy, mommy, or both, or a location independent income so you can travel at will. I highly recommend blogging. Take this Nomadic Matt’s business of travel blogging course by clicking here to truly get started in the blogging world the right way. It is worth every penny!
This realization about money will have you wanting to quit your 9 to 5 immediately. You’ll be in full-blown desperation mode trying to do anything possible to have location independent income so you can travel indefinitely. It will consume your every waking thought. You will read every blog and watch every vlog on how to make money online. You’ll spend massive amounts of money hiring various coaches that will promise to teach you how to make money online. There is good news though. Travel will help you discover your true passions. You’ll soon realize that there is absolutely no limit to the amount of wealth you can make doing what it is that you love. Manifest that shit!
After reading the 4 other ways travel messes you up, you should be more than ready to hear the 5th way that travel seriously messes you up. Lean in. Travel makes you realize that your first world problems are tiny in the grand scheme of things. All those tantrums you throw about not being able to afford the latest iPhone or that fancy car you have always wanted, or even being miserable at your current job, don’t mean squat.
The reality is that if you are reading this post and even contemplating travel, then you have it better than billions of others on planet earth. Let that sink in for a second. The next time you find yourself complaining, go back to this. Travel will remind you of this even when you don’t want it to.
Once again, travel seriously messes you up. Think long and hard before you book that trip. Be prepared to be messed up for life. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
